Therapeutic Yoga for Cancer Support
‘A holistic practise that helps improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.’
Any life-threatening or serious illness can impact our inner harmony on all levels: body, mind, emotions, and spirit. I have received specialist training in Yoga for Cancer patients, but it is my belief that this style of therapeutic yoga can benefit anyone with a life-threatening or challenging diagnosis, be that physical or mental.
Such an illness and consequent diagnosis can mean that we are faced with our own mortality. Belief systems and current coping strategies that we have adopted may no longer seem viable. We may feel threatened, vulnerable, and alone.
Therapeutic Yoga encourages the development of your own inner resources and provides practical tools to help navigate your healing journey.
The simplest of yoga movements, relaxation, breathing, and meditation techniques can help to:
- Manage powerful emotions
- Reduce fatigue
- Have a positive effect on sleep
- Manage anxiety and stress
- Reduce many forms of pain
- Lessen the impact of side effects from treatments or surgery
- Support physical and emotional well-being
- Enhance the immune system
- Improve mobility and balance
- Regulate the nervous system
- Increase strength and flexibility
- Reduce scar tissue
- Promote relaxation
- Most importantly, improve quality of life
Studies suggest yoga can not only help adult cancer patients and survivors manage symptoms and side effects, but also help them to lead longer, healthier lives.
Yoga isn’t a ‘cure’ for cancer or life-changing illness. But practising yoga can help us to face and deal with its challenges.
If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with cancer or any life-challenging illness and you would like to discuss either working with me on a one-to-one basis or joining a specialist small class, please do get in touch.
